ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

Thesis: Lecturers are not responsible for motivating students to learn.
1st argument:  College students are already mature enough.
2nd argument: The main motivation comes from your self.
3rd argument: Lecturers are not the one and only source of student’s motivation to learn in university.
Contour argument: Lecturers have big impact in teaching-learning process in a university.
Conclusion: Motivation student to learn is not lecturer’s responsibility.

Motivation is defined as the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. Motivation is what causes us to act, whether it is getting a glass of water to reduce thirst or reading a book to gain knowledge. If it is for college student, I think they are already mature enough. So, I do believe that lecturers are not responsible to motivate students to learn.

College students are already mature enough. Based on psychology fact people who already mature enough, they are able to control and manage their selves about their emotional, behavior how to act in whatever the condition is. They should place their selves in a proper condition. They also have their own principal. They have to adapt with whatever the situation and condition is, even when the lecturer doesn't support them to learn, they still control their selves and keep on their mood to study. They must make their own motivation for themselves not depend on people or especially lecturer.

The main motivation comes from your own self. Like Amit Ray said that  “You are your master. Only you have the master keys to open the inner locks.”so the key of motivation also come from your own self not from the other people. So no matter how hard the lecturer try to motivate the students to learn if they don’t want to change,  it will not change and the lecturer’s motivation will not affect them at all.

Lecturers are not the one and only source of student’s motivation to learn in university. Nowadays, there are so many ways to motivate students, not only from lecturers. For example, in university there are events or seminar that can support and motivate college student to learn. Based on my personal experience, I have a friend who is a college student who is taught by lecturers who are very lazy and even don’t support them to learn. But luckily there are so many motivation seminars and events in her university which can help her to motivate herself from the other source.

Lecturers have big impact in teaching-learning process in a university. Then, many people assume that because lecturers have big impact in teaching-learning process in a university. It means that the lecturers have responsibility in motivation their students because they think that if the lecturers can motivate students to learn, the teaching –learning process can run well.  But in the truth, there are so many students that the lecturers teach. So it will be impossible for the lecturer to be responsible in motivating their students one by one because lecturers are also a human, they have limited capacity in controlling many people.

A college student is already mature enough so they can control and manage themselves. They may not be dependent person. And also the motivation will affect more if the motivation comes from their own selves. It will be greater than it should be. However, the motivation will be back to the student’s personal itself. So, motivation student to learn is not lecturer’s responsibility.
